Where is the Love? may be my new favourite song. The music is compelling, and the lyrics make me want to stand on a rooftop and make everyone listen to them. And not just listen, but comprehend. And not just comprehend, but ACT. The world needs to change, the hate needs to stop, the lies need to be broken, the truth needs to come forth.
I'm such an idealist. I really hope that the blackout will force people to think about their energy consumption, and to realize that they use too damn much, and to come up with ways to use less. The media was calling it an Emergency and all I could think of was how sad it was that we're so damn dependent on power that when we do not have it, it becomes an Emergency. Read a book, people! I mean, I understand the air-conditioning in a heat wave, and the food-spoiling, but really. Every aspect of our lives tends towards energy consumption, and it's just ridiculous and unnecessary.
I really know, however, that all that is going to happen is that damn president down south is going to put his own energy into figuring out a way to make MORE energy; rather than avoiding this type of thing in the future by lowering our usage, he's surely just going to create more so that our high-energy lives can continue uninterrupted.
I may be an idealist, but I'm also cranky, so bitterness is to be expected.
