I’m still not sure I’m going to write about ...what I’ve been avoiding writing about. I'm so numb that I don't think I can get at any of it. I'm a little worried that with the amount of emotion I've been suppressing, if I once let it out, I'll drown. I may never write about it; the time may have passed. But I need to write something, so here I am.
This past week, from about Tuesday on, has been positively exhilarating. I mean it, I’m over the moon with ideas and projects and thoughts. And it’s because of work. I know, right?! Ok, first of all, I was given a new office. It was due to the hiring of new employees and a reshuffle of office space for everyone, but my new office happens to be enormous, isolated, has nine windows, and is all mine. Then, to go in the new office, they got me new desk furniture (check me out!!). They’re also ordering me a new computer, with a flatpanel monitor, hooray! Then, I had a really good employee evaluation, wherein I was told over and over how wonderful, professional, reliable and creative an employee I am, and I made an “exemplary” on the eval. Then, and this is a total secret so shh, I asked for a raise and they gave it to me (I can’t stop with the italics, I really can’t). It’s only a little “bump,” as they said, but I can’t fight the smile that appears whenever I think of it. After all these years, recognition! It’s wonderful.
THEN I find out that we are having training for the instructors so that if we come across a student who possibly has learning problems or even a disability, we know how to help that student. We have also hired a guidance counsellor to help keep the students on track and feeling happy about their work and their goals. The training was fantastic. Remember Steve Sak? Old friend, Guy Who Went To Philippines With Kevin? Well, his sister owns LearnAbility Cape Breton, and she came in to do the training with us. I LOVE HER AND WANT TO KEEP HER. The information blew my mind. These past two days my brain has been teeming with new information, which has sparked idea after idea after idea for our student website, the student binder, the welcome CD I’m working on, and so much more. All synapses are firing, and I’m actually atingle with the giant mountain of work I’m creating for myself. And I love it. MY JOB. Love it.
