The weekend

Yesterday Kevin and I had an appointment to view a house. I fell in love with it, although he did not. When I thought about it rationally, I realized it could never work; it was far too small, and even I banged my head off the low sloped ceilings. But the living room was gorgeous, and the back deck had a delicious view of the deciduous forest surrounding the city, and the backyard had a lilac tree.

But if you can’t walk in it, it’s no good. The realtor - for whom kevin used to work, in a different job - asked if we’d been to see a certain other house, one we’d actually discussed. We said no, and he offered to show it right away. So off we went.

And it’s almost perfect.

it’s got a brand new, completely empty, eight foot basement, ready for development, with a brand new furnace and oil tank. The main floor is open almost entirely from front to back across most of the house, with a great open kitchen and tons of living space. There’s a back deck with a yard and a giant maple tree. The upstairs has hardwood floors across half of it (and possibly more). The bathroom and three of the bedrooms are cramped, but it would be extremely simple to make those four rooms into two.

We love it. We got a second viewing last night, with most of our parents in tow to do an inspection (his dad is a carpenter and my dad a jack-of-all). They checked it out stem to stern. It needs all new windows, and a good coat of paint.. and that’s about it. A few minor things like a storm door, moving the electrical panel, getting new outlets installed - all simple things that we all can do ourselves.

Tomorrow, we call the bank to see how we make an offer.

Aieeeeeeeeeee!

Please please please cross your fingers for me. Vibe-a-licious baby!

. . .

Last night, we went out on the Mira (River - a coveted cottage area) to a friend’s place for a birthday party. I wasn’t feeling too social. I spent most of the night outside - staring at the stars from the dark dark patio, hanging out on the dock, and best of all - tending the abandoned campfire all alone for about an hour. Oh, it was just delicious.
