I wandered into my old, old Elfwood Gallery and started reading the comments. Some of them were heartening such as those on the collaboration I did with Otter; but others did nothing but make me shake my head. Like the comments on my fire elemental: "the body looks a little squat" or "the legs are to [sic] short." It confused me a little, and got me thinking about how people have an "ideal" in their heads and feel the need to project it onto everything. If they must know, that's the way that *I* look. I'm squat. So does that make me not valid?
Or the comments on my mermaid. It's an OLD picture, and it's not very good. But still, there are comments like "mermaids are lively and vigerous[sic]" ... I'm sorry, you've seen mermaids often, have you? That type of thing is always happening.. I have comments like 'Hera doesn't look like that' or 'dragons are scaly, not smooth'... like HELLO PEOPLE IT'S FANTASY. I'm all for criticism, but what the hell?
And then there's the comments where the commenter wants the artist to change the entire picture. Like, "If you make the background black then it would look a whole lot cooler!Maybe make it night outside. No stars though. maybe a Moon!" on my part of the ocean pic; or "She's a beautiful angel. My gripe is that the wings seem a bit stiff." on my angel being taken.
Blargh. I guess that's what you get for putting your stuff out on teh interweb.
I'm tired. 'Night.
